Single Tasking vs Multitasking Approach

Single-tasking is key for artistic focus and breakthroughs. As creatives, musicians are particularly prone to multitasking. But when we discipline ourselves to prioritize our top two priorities each day, we see faster progress and higher-quality results.

Benefits include:

  • Improved focus: Single-tasking allows us to fully immerse ourselves in our work, leading to deeper concentration and clearer vision.

  • Momentum building: Uninterrupted creative flow builds momentum, propelling us forward and making progress feel effortless.

  • Increased drive and motivation: Achieving focused results fuels our internal fire, keeping us motivated and eager to tackle the next challenge.

The Top Two Priority Method

Long to-do lists can feel overwhelming. But following a simple strategy to focus on your top two priorities each day will overcome overwhelm!

1. Plan the Night Before:

  • Each night make a note of your tasks for the next day.

  • Identify the two most important tasks that will move the dial forward. These become your top two priorities.

2. Power Up with Focus:

  • Dedicate 40-90 minutes to each priority in “power hour” blocks.

  •  During these blocks, dive deep into the task at hand.

4. Stay the Course:

  • Stay in the step you’re in until it’s completed.

  • Resist the urge to multitask or jump to other items on your list.

This top two priority approach is a highly effective tool for tackling projects head on. It increases focus and productivity, pulling you towards your bigger vision.
